My First Post

Welcome! So this my first stab at this blogging thing. To be perfectly honest I think it's a kind of silly way to get information out there, but I've found a good excuse.... This summer I'm going to be travelling around the world.

I want to be able to keep everyone up to date on my progress/experiences/problems/pictures when I'm on the road, and a blog really seemed like the perfect format. I probably won't post much more here until closer to my departure. In the mean time I'll give you a few details about my trip..

Departure: June 22, 2006 from Boston Logan International
Return: August 9, 2006 to Boston Logan International
Modes of transportation: Airplane, Subway, Train, Bus and Walking

Cities to visit (in order):
-London England
-Paris France
-Brussels Belgium (mmm... Chocolate)
-Bruge Belgium (ancient city, supposed to be a great day trip)
-Amsterdam Netherlands
-Hamburg Germany (see where the roommate is from)
-St. Petersburg Russia (In mother Russia, car drive you!)
-Moscow Russia (I think it's kinda creepy that Lenin is on display, but when in Rome...)
-Ekaterinburg Russia (where the Romanov's were murdered, and Gary Powers was shot down. You can go see the plane wreckage in a city museum)
-Irkutsk Russia (one night, before Litsvyanka)
-Litsvyanka Russia (small village on Lake Baikal in the middle of Siberia)
-Ulaan Baator Mongolia (the coldest capital on earth)
-Gobi Desert (staying with some Nomads, going horseback riding and getting back to my conquering roots with a visit to Karakorum, Genghis Kahn's hometown and capital)
-Beijing China (1.3 billion chinese can't be wrong!)
-Xi'an China (Terracota warriors)
-Guilin China (transit connection for a night before Yangshuo)
-Yangshuo China (Ever wonder where those eery mountain peeks on chinese takeout menus are? They're in Yangshuo)
-Hong Kong (woah - I'm really excited about Hong Kong!)
-Dubai (I'm flying Emirates and the 1 night stayover was free. I will be able to say I've been to the Middle East though)
-London (again)
-Boston

I'll be putting more up here soon, stay tuned!

Happy Wanderings,
Andrew
